I’m a fantasy gown designer based in Los Angeles. What started as a hobby back in Texas where I grew up, making fantasy costumes for my sister and me, turned into a full time career. Back in 2002 I made cosplay outfits for the two of us to wear together to conventions. My costumes began to attract a lot attention and people offered to pay me to make their dream cosplays!
Fast forward sixteen years, I live in Los Angeles and have a studio with a small team of talented seamstresses who have created hundreds of fantasy gowns (specializing in Fantasy Bridal Gowns) for clients who appreciate my personal style. We have published my original sewing patterns with Simplicity Patterns, and recently self-published an exclusive Moonpetal sewing pattern available on our Etsy shop.
Firefly-Path is the Fairy Godmother you didn't know you needed! Some may not believe such supernaturally fanciful frocks could actually exist, but one look at her gallery will have you convinced that magic is absolutely real. Her creations are an invitation to a very special world that flourishes because of her seemingly endless imagination. Firefly-Path is self-taught and it's through her tenacity that she has turned a love for cosplay into an incredible business. She has posted several tutorials and even started publishing original sewing patterns with Simplicity, enabling others to create their own fantastical costumes and accessories! It is for all of these reasons that we are enchanted to award Deviousness for June 2018 to Firefly-Path.
Firefly-Path has been on DeviantArt amazing me with her fairytale gowns for as long as I can remember. JoEllen's creations capture the imagination in enchanting ways and they have only gotten more and more amazing with time. I think it's safe to say that her work is not only inspiring to the artisan crafts community, but to any artist that enjoys fantasy and fairytales! It's no surprise that she has achieved wonderful success as a full-time designer, and it's especially lovely that she has done it while sharing her techniques through tutorials and her own line of Simplicity patterns. We are so lucky to have her on DeviantArt showcasing her magical designs, and I'm so pleased that she's being recognized with Deviousness Congratulations Firefly-Path, you never fail to keep me believing in magic!
JoEllen Conway is one of the most inspirational people for a budding seamstress as myself. Her designs capture meticulous detail of original and character inspired pieces and every new piece feels like she's pushing her skills to the top.
I've known JoEllen of @firefly-patyh for at least a dozen years now since we met through cosplay. I can say that there are very few people that I'm jealous of their design skills, but her wedding dresses are just amazing! I'm quite impressed she turned her hobby into a business and hope to even get one of her designs crafted for my fiancee when we tie the knot. She is truly an inspiration when it comes to design, and makes me work that much harder so my work can become famous like her own. Keep up the great work, I miss seeing you at conventions!
When entering Firefly-Path's gallery you step into another dream world where magical fairy creatures and dreamy wedding designs will capture all of your senses and heart. JoEllen has managed to create a truly unique world with her designs that are loved and cherished by many. Not only does she share her magical designs in dress format but recently she has invested her time in making patterns for those who have always wanted to own a dress by her hand but couldn’t. She is a great creator, fairy-godmother and friend, and it has been pure joy seeing her business and brand expand over the years.
JoEllen's work is a fantasy lover's dream. Her versatility as an artist is remarkable. She designs ornate dresses, capes, crowns and even jewelled gloves and, with each piece, you can recognize her personal style. In addition to being a multi-talented artisan, she also provides tutorials in her blog on how make them yourself. It always brings me joy to find her new work in my inbox and I look forward to seeing her next creations. Deviousness definitely deserved!
With all the artistry and intricate and beautiful work she does with her costumes, it has the ability to whisk you off into another world --bringing fantasy to life, for sure. She is also usually pretty great about allowing artists to draw her creations with permission of course!
I've been watching Firefly-Path for a long time and her gallery is definitely one of my favourites. If I ever win the lottery, I plan on buying everything she makes! I'll be the Larper people are talking about who is always in costume. Her view of fantasy really shines in what she puts together. There is no doubt of what you're seeing. Everything is breathtaking and comes to life n-- and it isn't even being worn yet! Looking at her costumes is like reading a good book. Your imagination takes off the second you lay eyes on it.
Firefly-Path is in her way unique. She truly accomplishes magic with her designs, and then unbelievably brings them into the real world. No other designer - costumer I have ever known has her gift, her talent and her dedication to bringing her creations into the world. Each piece is a new way for the world to see beauty, the magical to be worn, and the gentle delights of seeing a human become the mystical being they can be by wearing her works. Of all the folk I know, she is the one that brings that sense of the ethereal, the other worldly, and the transformative into the costuming world.

Community Project: #Daily5
Come one, come all! It's time for a community project.
Something many of us see on DA each day is community members asking for comments. Whether it's simply acknowledgement that they created something or genuinely wanting feedback on their art, true deviation comments can be hard to come by! I mean there is a LOT of artwork submitted here each day. If you don't have a large watcherbase, it can be hard to get attention for yourself and your art. There are a lot of comment-oriented projects on DA and that's awesome. I am hoping to keep the momentum going with this new project.
I would like to challenge all of you to take 5-10 minutes each day (or as many days as you can!) to leave only five (5) comments on others' deviations. Commenting gives attention to others but can also bring some attention right back to YOU! Plus, commenting can be a great learning experience for all involved.
ThumbHub May Contest!Come one, come all... It's time for the next ThumbHub contest! And you only have 3 weeks to get those entries in#thumbhub #contest #may2018
so MAKE IT SNAPPY!
Spring is a wonderful time of year, at least in the northern hemisphere. The weather is getting warmer, all signs of snow are vacating the area, and... dogs are shedding. That last bit may not be super grand but it was a good segway into the theme of this month's contest!
If you have spent any time in the :#ThumbHub: chat, you are probably aware that we are a large group of dog lovers. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and who does not love a good doggo hug?! Dogs are also known to be giant goofballs--similar to most of the ThumbHub users, amirite--and can end up in some pretty hilarious situations. Hence the theme of this month's contest:
Dogs in Awkward Situations
Yep. We want you to create artwork of any medium that is all about our four-legged friends in awkward situations. They may
DD Discussion chat on May 12Up to thirty-one pieces of literature are chosen as Daily Deviations. You may read them every day, or once in a long while, or perhaps you wait and look through the journal compiling them at the end of the month. After reading, you may leave a comment, add it to your favorites, or just move on without doing anything at all. What you probably do not do is discuss your reactions in detail with your fellow Literature Community members.
We are inviting you to do just that with us in #CRLiterature this Saturday, May 12 from 11am-1pm Pacific Time - see what that is in your time zone here. We will be discussing a selection of Literature DDs from the month of April.
We believe that discussion with friends and peers is
