We want to start by giving a giant THANK YOU to the director of "9", Shane Acker, for tackling the difficult job of choosing the final winners from 25 incredible semi-finalist entries! It is such an honor to have the director of the movie check out the great entries that our devious artists created. Read Official Rules for Details |
YOU, our wonderful and talented community, responded to the challenge with creepy, beautiful, inventive creatures that really had the spark of life! Mr. Acker himself says, |

First, deviantART and Shane Acker would like to give a shout out to two runners up: | |
" There is something so charming about this design. It's very playful and imaginative and incredibly well crafted. I imagine this could be a little construction worker under the employ of the Fabrication Machine helping to construct larger beasts. Its appeal could lure the Stickpunks in and then when they are in range it would fire up the torches! "- Shane Acker, Director |

" I love this creature's design and I love that it is hand made. The artist really put the whole package together, from the creature to the set and even the backdrop. Even though it is composed of man made parts it feels very organic which makes it unique. If I was 9 and I saw this thing coming over the hill at me I'd definitely wet my burlap! " This is a fantastic concept for a creature and a beautiful illustration as well. I love the idea of it leaving sticky oil traps for the Stickpunks to stumble into and that its design allows for multiple ways for this creature to move through the world. It's creepy, frightening and fun at the same time which totally fits the world of 9. "- Shane Acker, Director |

"Shane, I love how you mind works. I loved this movie. I love the whole concept & artistic idea behind it, the character, creature & environment designs and I can't wait to see what you do next. I hope things are going well for you atm. I'll be honest, I was less than happy when I discovered what your new movie project at first (A new Thomas the Tank Engine movie) but then you explained the idea behind being about the author and how he wrote them for his deathly ill son, Chris. That gave me hope for it as does the fact that this is my oldest childhood TV love and you're taking it in a darker direction. I'm holding out hope that this be good.
Going back to 9, I understand that you didn't get enough time & money to put the whole movie out there to show us. Which (I'm being honest here) did make the story & character development suffer. People keep telling you to that we want to see a sequel to 9, as do you. I on the other hand say "No. Not yet, anyway. Before you make a sequel, I think you should re-release 9 in cinemas with all of the good stuff that was taken out of the original final cut of the movie put back in. Extend the movie with all of the story & character development that it lacked. Then, when that's been done, THEN you should work on a sequel. This is one of my all time fave films, but (No offence!) I believe that it could--No, SHOULD have been better than it was, but you just didn't get the chance. And one more thing, the film was crying out for 3D. Put that in there too! Infact, I've tried dreaming but a few fan fiction ideas on 9 myself which I hope you'd like. Sorry, I'm blabbing now lol.
Anyway, if you do by chance get round to reading this message, then I hope you keep what I've written in mind. I don't expect a reply from you either, but again, if by chance you do, do send me a message and please let me know what you think. I wish you all the best and thank you for all the inspiration you've given not only to me, but to some many other thousands of people across the globe. And on their behalf, I say "Thank you".
Kind regards
- CJ
P.S. If you do re-release 9, then please add 2's "Smashing!" one-liner. lol. Thanks again.
