Spirit Day 2012

Wed Oct 17, 2012, 1:50 PM
"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillan

In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.

While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community.  It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so.

Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

Show your support for this anti-bullying message on October 19th by participating in one or more of the following:

:bulletpurple: Turn your devID or your avatar purple
:bulletpurple: Create Spirit Day artwork and submit it to our Spirit Day Gallery. Submit your artwork that encourage themes such as acceptance, love,  kindness, inclusion, diversity, embracing differences, compassion, empathy, and of course, purple!
:bulletpurple: Show support for fellow deviants
:bulletpurple: Be awesome

What a stupid idea. Who always comes up with petty stuff like that?

What idea is "stupid" exactly?

:icontheaitetos:
Both ideas: Spirit Day itself and the fact that dA is joining in on this thing, for 2 reasons:
:bulletred: There's a lot of bullying (not only LGBT stuff) going on right here at this site, yet we see these more-than-useless signs put up in front of the :devart:house instead of implementing measures to address the problem in the backyard.
:bulletred: Why focus on some special community when it comes to anti-bullying pledges? There's bullying of all kinds of people, not only LGBTs.

If you actually read my post you'd see I addressed both those reasons. Clearly you didn't and just want to rally against an effort.

I did, but apart from mentioning it in half of a sentence, there is nothing, no mentioning it in a prominent place (headline), nor is it possible to solely participate in the effort against bullying: Everyone who supports efforts against bullying, is forced to support the LGBT-movement as well or isn't able to participate; not cool.
Oh, and the other thing: No, dA still hasn't implemented any really useful tools to defend against bullies and haters.

I think this was very much 'embraced' by the whole Community.
Good idea.
