Set in an unspecified period of classical Japanese history, Okami combines several Japanese myths, legends and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto sun goddess, Amaterasu, who has taken the form of a white wolf.
With her Celestial Brush, Amaterasu paints on the screen,
solving puzzles and battling the evil Orochi.

Considered one of the most visually stunning games of all time, the game environment is set in a woodcut, water-color style, cel-shaded environment, which looks like an animated sumi-e illustration.  This amazing game has finally arrived on the Nintendo Wii!  To find out more information please visit the official Okami site.

The Contest

Capcom has generously teamed up with deviantART to try and create fan-art for their multi-award winning game Okami for the Nintendo Wii, in celebration of its long awaited release on launch date here WE challenge YOU to create original, mind-blowing, out of this world ART inspired by the beautiful Sumi-e artwork featured by Okami using all the Skills at your disposal, whether you are a Traditional Artist or use Digital Media.

Adhere to the guidelines below:

  • Entrants must be 13 years old or older to participate in the Okami Fan Art Contest
  • Entries are to be inspired by the game, Okami, but not derivative of it or other privately owned property;
  • You may submit more than one entry;
  • Online entries only, hardcopies are not accepted;
  • The design must be 100% your work;
  • No copyrighted images can be used in any way except for the creative resources linked below.
  • Minimum resolution requirements: 2550 x 3300, 300 dpi;
  • Residents of Quebec are eligible to compete but are not eligible for prizes

For the past 5 years our very own $Moonbeam13 has been involved in supporting and raising money for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer event in Toronto.

Lessons Learned: How I Dealt With An Art ThiefEvery day, many people on deviantArt find themselves dealing with art thieves off-site (outside deviantArt). There are many ways to approach this issue, but this article is about how I went about it. I'm only writing this in an attempt to be helpful to others going through the same thing, or give ideas to those going through it who don't know where to start or what to do. Becoming victim to an art ripper isn't a hopeless, helpless situation. Though I was inexperienced with the issue at the time and justifiably angered, I was able to prevail through a mixture of help from other kind deviants, a professional manner/attitude and resources found on the web.
My particular case began one day about a week after my first Daily Deviation was given to me by Aeires. Up until that time I was a relatively unknown artist, and was minimally protecting my work with an easily removed watermark. I didn't really think my work was worth stealing, and honestly hadn't thought about what would happen if

No, it is Ookami.

But it can be spelled Okami as long as there is a line over the o. In Japanese it's a double o sound/spelling.

In what aspects is it harder? :o

Alot of people complain that the brush work is harder on the wii. but it isnt really, it allows alot of freedeom , and alot less finger/thumb cramps xD
