*Starts rocking back and forth in the corner and muttering incoherently* They're doing this on purpose. They are doing this ON PURPOSE! I am slowly going insane! This whole trial has been contrived expressly to drive us slowly but certainly towards our inevitable demise through the long, cold, claustrophobic tunnel of creeping insanity! But the big joke is that we are DRIVING OURSELVES there! It's............ IT'S........ INSIDIOUS!!!! ................I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, DA! I SEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I am on to your insidious tricks. WELL I AM NOT FALLING FOR IT!" *Runs off naked and screaming incoherent gibberish at the top of my lungs*

*Stops screaming just long enough to say..... :3 "Heh. Yer welcome," then continues running around naked and screaming random nonsense* YOU CANNOT RUST A BANANA, THEY SAID! WELL I HAPPEN TO KNOW OTHERWISE! ALL IT REQUIRES IS A FEW JUMPING JACKS, A FLUTE, AND WHATEVER LATE ALIMONY PAYMENTS YOU OWE YOUR EX WIFE! (Yes, I know she is obnoxious but it is  necessary to RUST THE BANANA!) UPON COMPLETION OF THE CEREMONIAL NAKED RUSTING DANCE....... *dramatic pause* BEHOLD! A Jack Russel Terrier......... *contemplative pause* HOW DID THAT HAPPEN!? I DON'T OATMEAL THIS! THIS MAKES NO BANANA! I anticipate BANANA! YOU BASTARDS! *Stares furiously at the floor for approximately three minutes and fifteen seconds* Wait.... perhaps because I do not in fact have an ex wife to whom I owe alimony..... this means....... I CANNOT RUST THE BANANA! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. *starts hurling globs of Nutella at people* I WILL PUNISH YOU ALL.

Bystanders: Oooh! Nutella! Not really much of a punishment. *yum*

SILENCE, HEATHENS! THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE ONE TRUE TOASTER OVEN WILL BURN FOREVER IN A LAKE OF..... mmmmmmmm....... delicious Nutellla! *stands perfectly stock still for approximately 23 seconds with a crazed look upon my face then suddenly prances away kazooing God Save the Queen... no one is entirely sure where the kazoo came from.*

Hey, has anyone here been to Comic Con or going this year? I'm totally looking forward to pics from this year now.

I wish I was going this year since this contest gives me a specific thing to look forward to. I went in 2007 as part of a college class fieldtrip and have been totally planning to go again but never got around to it. :(  It was pretty awesome though. Came home with tons of free give away stuff!

Any other Comic Con goers here?

I was just about to ask re: Comic-Con. I know a lot of vendors and artists are there setting up. Will it be announced whose work is being shown, and will there be any pics to share??? :D Got my fingers crossed. Exposure is always fun, unless its of the creepy trenchcoat variety.

I'm actually starting to have dreams about this. I had one dream that I lost. It was sad. THE END. Boo. I had another dream that I won. I tossed off all my clothes and started running laps around my house shouting WWWWWWHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HHHOOOOOOO!!!! Probably not all that far off from what I'd actually do. =P

So anyway.... here's a question to my fellow semi-finalists to pass the anxiety time. If you could go back and redo your entry, what would you do differently? Or would you change anything at all?

Personally? I would have gone in a somewhat different direction with the idea I initially had. I think I would have drawn this woman sitting on a couch, reading her book, looking pleasant, sipping from a nice, steamy cup of tea. Next to her, I would have drawn another woman, decrepit, corrupted, incorporeal- a demented, blackened smile upon her face. She would be cupping the bottom of the cup with her hand as if to say "drink up, dearie."

MUAHAHAHAH. So, thoughts?

I think I would like to have adjusted my lighting a little better and rendered the spider out a little further. I also wish I'd had time to go in and render out all the little spiders as necessary, but I had to make a brush and make do with that. All in all though, I'm pretty darn happy with how mine came out in terms of composition and execution.

Indeed. I especially liked your composition. :) That is something I still struggle with. I can render detail down to the microlayer but composition.... ugh. Not my strong suit. But I'm workin on it. :B I understand the principles. I just need to make them work in my favor. XD

I had to color my piece on the last day of the contest, so there is a lot that I would have done differently. I would have put the dudes hands in the shot as if he was just getting up from splashing water on his face before seeing the shocking figure in the mirror. Also the color in the reflection got washed out when putting splotches and lighting effects on the mirror. The demon in the mirror, I would have put a bit more detail into. I also wanted to have a blurry effect on his limbs and body the more distant they were. I wanted to put in a lot more detail in the bathroom too, but I was getting down to the wire and had to call it done before it was finished. Maybe next time I'll give myself two days to color.

I wake up thinking "oh no, I might be late to the party!" so I click the bookmark, and still see the semis notice, and go "whew! ....rrrrrrrr....".

Hmm, if I had to redo, I'd probably work on the ambience of the soup bowl area. Make it look more daunting, choose another background maybe. I considered doing a black and white version instead, for dramatic effect, but it wouldn't be as obvious I felt. Really though, it's so simple I'm not sure what I'd change.

...actually I just thought of a concept! Maybe show the spoon dropped on the table, the letters kind of slipping off on to the table with a more reddish broth, as if something bad instantly occurred.

It's funny that my first piece I spent a ton of time on and the one that got picked I whipped out in 3 days. I think I would have tried to get the underwater look better, maybe show what was going on underneath in the pipes. I wish I could have done it in color, but maybe that would have just ruined it. The anticipation is killing me. I've had some dreams too :) It's hard to concentrate since they're all so good, at this point it seems like it's not about whose is best, but simply which ones' aesthetics the director prefers. Good luck to everyone!

I don't know about you (cause I really liked both your entries) but I think I over-thought/worked my first one, and the time crunch forced me to go more simple and instinctive on the second. One of the reasons I like these contests: That time limit forces some unexpected things to happen :)

You know Trina, I've come to that realization as well. I've brought that concept up to a friend too, and he agrees it's whatever the directors' personal preference is, because they're all good in different ways. He'll probably pick whichever fits the ideal suspenseful scenario for the film, that works best. Part of this wait period may in fact be, that it's such a hard choice. Or, he's busy with movie-related stuff. =P

For your work, I think it's better that you didn't show what's in the pipe. The subtlety is much higher this way, and it adds to the "innocence" of your drawing. I feel it's great as-is!

I noticed a few mistakes I made that I wish I could go back and fix. Actually, if I would have had the time, I would have tightened up a lot of aspects of the picture. I wish I had stuck with my original idea of having the child holding a miniature version of the bear he is sitting on. That was in my first sketch.

I have so much I would do different. I'm surprised I made it since I finished this piece I about a week when all my other contest work I planned and worked on for around a month.

I would of set up the composition better making sure the candle hands are not cut off at the top. I would of made the hands more dynamic too, reaching out more. I would of rendered everything out a bit more too, polishing and detailing all the objects in the scene.

I feel pretty good about how much I finished in a week though, especially since I made it! I really do need to knock up the quality of my work though. I've been making good progress, created a Deviant art account and received a Daily Deviation and made it into this contest. Next goals include getting my work accepted into Layerpaint, expose books and actually winning contests. Time to get on it!

I know what you mean about the dreams...iv'e been having dreams too. Some good some bad.
If I could change one thing about my entry I would have probably made the monster luring the child into the Tv some way....To get the kid to cross into that world haha putting an idea on canvas is SOOO hard though....it always looks better in my head. If I actually place in this contest some of the money is going towards digital art programs and Wacom tablet. Want to expand into doing both traditional and digital. :) I strongly believe you will place! Something about how peaceful she looks....all the while those arms are closing in on her. Perfect example of "insidious."
