Contest closed! Good luck to everyone who was able to enter. I tried to submit my entry for over 4 hours last night and it kept timing out. I uploaded it just fine this morning to the regular categories. Total BS!

I had all the time in the world to make something for this contest, and I didn't even attempt to start. I didn't see the movie either, so maybe that had something to do with it too.

I'm sorry but I HAVE to say something about everyone who is pissing and moaning about this contest being for US only. Here is the reality of it, once outside of the US, US laws do not apply to ANYONE. (Hence, why people flee the US when they have committed a crime like Cobb for example) DA, and who ever else is involved in the contract licensing agreements and all that other good crap that goes into ownership of an image, is not going to sit there and pay the fees, and sift thru the laws of another country to make a contract valid and ownership of this image be transfered to whoever will be owning this image once you have drawn it, especially since it is just for a comic book cover. Too much for something so insignificant. The US does not have a problem with other nations etc, however for a project this size it is smarter to deal only with the nation in which the laws are well known and understood, the US. Not to mention because of the difference in laws technically a non US deviant could win, and the image can be taken and used and guess what, you don't have to receive a dime despite the "agreement". The Non US person would have to MAKE the person who used the Image from the US come to what ever other nation and stand trial there. SO no harm is meant in excluding non US, it's for legal reasons most likely, not because of ill will...
Sorry, Just had to say something because there is no reason for people to have hurt feelings over this. There will be other contests...

It's a shame that the contest is only for residents of the United States. The money and gifts do not matter, the idea that an artist like Christopher Nolan could check my work, yes.

That idea is what makes this competition into something amazing.

Good luck to all who can participate, you have a great opportunity.

Damn, there are a lot of good posts and it's hard to vote, since that's all we Canadians (and others) can do since only Americans can participate... Anyways, yeah, a lot of good ones to pick from. It's gonna be hard decision making for those decisions makers.

there is no voting.

from the article: 15 Semi-Finalists will be selected by full-time deviantART Staff.
From the Semi-Finalists, the final three winners will be selected by the writer and director of Inception, Christopher Nolan!

Hmm, I'm thinking through the comments and such, given towards each submission. Quiet honestly, I'm not too should, however, since this is a contest with a couple at a chance of winning first, second and third place, there must be a vote of some sort, you know?

this is not for the movie, its for the script of the Inception comic book.

About the size... I'm very confused and nervous because the deadline is so close.

The template we're given doesn't match the minimum requirement for entries. It only matches if turned to landscape/horizontal dimensions.

And... I see pretty much no entries that match the requirements. Does this mean that all of us are doomed to be disqualified because the template we were given isn't the right size/shape-- or are we all idiots for not paying attention? ;A;

I don't think anyone who uses the template and doesn't futz around with the size is in danger. It's for a comic book, so the tall portrait layout is obviously what the aim is, switching around the dimensions in the rules was surely just a small mistake. And the template file is larger than the minimum dimensions they've given, so if you don't mess around with the size, no problem. Since the dimensions given in the rules is a 'minimum' size, not an exact size that all entries must be.

But if people can't follow the simple rules given and are turning images that are tiny and immediately obviously not print-ready. Oh well, disqualify them and give those of us who pay attention more of a chance.

Alright. I figured that what with all the entries following the template exactly, that by now there would've been an announcement made or something like that... but I just wanted to make sure. It would really suck to be disqualified over something like that.

Definitely. Rules are rules.

Thanks!!

I'd would enter, but the semi-finalists being chosen by DA staff means it'll just be totally random or whatever is on the first page of entries! Not worth the effort...

I just want to say this. If you don't feel your skill or speed is adequate enough to create something for these contests without ripping the images from other peoples' work or completely disregarding the easy-to-follow rules, then don't. A lot of people would appreciated it, i think.
When you post one of these, it is like a big middle-finger to everyone; especially the other artists who put a bit of effort into it. It stinks: sifting through the piles of unqualified entries, when people are just clicking on your pieces to see HOW many ways you broke this unenforced law.
But don't sweat it. People will still call you artists and not thieves. No one is going to remember you used "steroids" to fashion your pieces. Just like no one is going to necessarily remember the winner.

I'm sorry if you think I'm being a baby about it. It's gotten old. And since the site can't do anything about it, I would hope you could find some F@#$ing honor and remove them yourselves. Because you are in the business of screwing over hard-working people and you probably don't even realize it. Perhaps, rather than art, you should pursue careers in politics.
