In the More Fiat, More Imagination Contest we challenged you to create a custom window wrap for the Fiat 500L, that would give us a glimpse of what we'd see going on inside the vehicle at Art Basel. Our judges have decided on the top twenty-five creations and sent them to Casey Hurbis, head of FIAT® communications, who will now decide which three will be featured on vehicles at Art Basel, Miami! Congratulations to the 25 Semi-Finalists below!

The remaining 22 Semi-Finalists will receive:
  • Three-Month Premium Membership
  • 2,000 deviantART points

I usually read the rules, but the one time I didn't I ended up breaking them lol.  Oh well.  Very interested to see the winners.

I always do enjoy the deviant art contests.  As an aspiring professional artist,  they always give drive to create something almost production-esque, which is great for someone like me who has difficulty setting self goals.

Ive checked out a lot of entries (semi's and not)  and there are some intriguing ones.  Good luck to semi-finalists

Hey there people, has any semi-finalist been requested the large template yet? From what I understand, the winners will be selected first, then the large template will be requested.

Nothing from my side but I did ask Moonbeam a few days ago when do we need to submit the large file as I thought it worked the other way around that you
submit the large file and they select the winners from that but either way this was her response:

You will be receiving instructions regarding the large window template submission.

hope that helps

Thank you for your responses. It's a coincidence that I commented today because I received an email a few hours ago requesting the large template. Good luck once again semi-finalists.

There's a few I don't personally like, but for the most part I think that the semi-finalists are fine. No one cares if it took you 2 hours or 20 hours to finish the entry, worked hard or barely broke a sweat. The point was not artistic skill and/or time spent. Granted, you gotta be skilled enough to get the point across, but it's the concept that's important, something lively, vibrant, eye-catching, colorful (usually), creative, fun, or generally just something associated with happiness or a good time. Most of these do a good job at that (eye-catchability aside, with a strong design you really only had one side of the car to get the point across, people driving/walking by will only see one side at first so you have to get the main concept across with that one panel. There are exceptions of course, but are tricky to pull off so the design is still fluid and visually appealing/engaging). Also, not all drawings/designs are meant to be put on a car. Some designs just simply won't look good as a window wrap. Posters maybe, but not on a car.

As far as "copying" or "redoing" an idea, what, does the person who enters an idea first suddenly own that idea? Because so and so used this object and these two colors, nobody else is allowed a similar design regardless if they already had that in mind? Again, the point is the visual communication of a concept, if another entrant gains inspiration from an existing entry or already had a similar idea but a more effective way of expressing it, then by all means. You also can't prove that a person "copied" someone else's design, you really have no idea. Speculating won't do much. There are bound to be similarities.

I say bravo to (most of) the semi-finalists, good luck in the final phase of judging.
