Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday Morning  :dance:
I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter ;)
I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations.  It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines.  This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated :)  
The following guideline changes are in effect:
:bulletred: The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)
:bulletred:  Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable.  To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day.  This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that :heart:).

Seniority Announcement - December 2011This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 800 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community. 
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be recognised

Gallery Description ProjectMost of you probably are aware that deviantART has a lot of categories. As you've seen over the past few months, we volunteers, in coordination with $Moonbeam13, often help to orchestrate various changes in category structure in order to make the submission and browsing experiences simpler and more advantageous for the community.
That said, there's another aspect of categories which, sadly, often have been overlooked. I'm referring to the Gallery Descriptions. Over time, gallery descriptions have fallen into disarray, leaving many categories with old and outdated descriptions, others with incorrect descriptions, and yet others without a description at all.
At the moment, gallery descriptions are most prominent when submitting new deviations. However, as part of this project, we hope that they will become more evident as you browse the site. One of our goals is to make a simple, navigable category structure focusing on descriptions that are clear, concise, and consistent.

Today marks an awareness day over a subject that can mean many things to many people. Self Harm (or Self Injury) is the act of physical damage to oneself, usually as a coping strategy for expressing deep distress or coping in difficult situations. Self harm commonly is associated with cutting, but can also  refer to any physical damage to the self including burning, hitting, taking overdoses, swallowing chemicals, bleaching, hair pulling ( trichotilliomania), scratching and so forth.
You may know what it is, but it is often the reasons why that people are not familiar with. There is still this belief and stereotype surrounding the type of person likely to harming them-self, but the truth is, it could be anyone no matter what gender, culture or age. Project Educate: Critique Week Welcome to Critique Week!
For the majority of us on DeviantART, critique is an essential part of our experience and development as artists. As much as we love praise or positive comments from our nearest and dearest, most of us are seeking to improve our craft and to be able to shape our Art more effectively. Some of us purely post our work here to get that all important feedback and the extra special people amongst us are on here to give it.
However, to get critique is not always as easy as slapping up our latest piece into our gallery and wait for the responses to come flooding in. In fact if you genuinely want good critique, you do need to make a bit of an effort to get it and get effective, constructive feedback in return.

Emoticon Gallery Changes

Greetings!

There are some changes to the Emoticon Gallery structure that I'm excited to announce.  Months ago `Synfull suggested this layout:

and the response from the community has been entirely in favor of this structural change!

While I have made most of the changes the category currently looks like this:

Not completely there! :( but the reason for this is because there were existing Animated and Static categories under Chat-Friendly where many of you have uploaded your emoticons to.  So what does that mean? I'm glad you asked! The floating Animated and Static categories will become sub-categories of Large - up to 150 x150.  I appreciate this isn't the ultimate solution as not everyone is going to want to classify their emoticons as Large, unfortunately I'm unable to give individual attention to each deviation so this is going to need to be a team effort!

If you have emoticons that are in chat friendly emotes -> animated category or chat friend emotes -> static you may want to move your emotes to a more suitable category if you don't want them to live in the "Large" category. 

Otherwise, if you are fine with them living there you need do nothing at all! This change will happen automatically once Devious Technology has completed the move of the categories :)

Thank you to `Synfull for an awesome suggestion and the community for the overwhelming support of it, it made this decision easy to make :)

Bigger than that should probably be placed in pixel art or something :) It's not really emote sized and chat friendly if it's bigger than that. 150 x 150 is pushing it as it is :)

Only the emotes that lived in chat friendly emotes -> animated category or chat friend emotes -> static were automatically moved into the "Large" category. Everything else will need to be moved manually by the artists as they see fit :)

it said it, old chat friendly emotes of any size were transfered to large up to 150X150.

:grump: i had a bunch of chat friendlys that were much smaller then that :stare:
