Dodge Dart Contest WinnersThe designers at Chrysler had some tough decisions to make. The semi-finalists in both of the Digital and Traditional categories presented a wide variety of approaches and techniques all inspired by the new Dodge Dart. The three winners for Digital and Traditional were selected after much deliberation and consideration. They will soon be on display in the lobby of the Dodge-Chrysler headquarters.

Cave Paintings: The Birth of IllustrationCave paintings are the root of traditional illustration, one the earliest of which has been in recent news, a 'faint red dot' dated to more than 40,000 years ago. These were discovered in 11 caves in Spain, and results show that they are at least 15,000 years older than we first thought. It raises many questions; What are they trying to say? Who made it? Is it symbolic? Who was it made for?
No matter what the answers are, illustration is a means for people to convey information, a means of visual communication. The purpose of these cave paintings are unknown, and we can only speculate as to their actual purpose. A time well before printing press, but the value of visual communication has lasted through the ages. One thing that is for sure is it was some sort of communication via visual aids, they had a purpose and had something to say.

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories.  While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other".  The reason for this change is simple.  The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree.  We're also working on u

Dodge Dart Contest Semi-Finalists Announced

Announcing the Dodge Dart Contest Semi-finalists!

Our esteemed semi-finalist judges pored through thousands of entries in the Dodge Dart Inspired By You Contest.  From abstract digital paintings, to paper-cutting, to traditional oil paintings, the deviantART community, once again, delivered incredibly creative and imaginative entries!

Out of these 30 semi-finalists, six artists (3 Digital and 3 Traditional) will have their amazing artworks displayed in a pop-up gallery at the Dodge-Chrysler Headquarters and score cash, iPads and other awesome prizes! The remaining 24 semi-finalists will receive 800 deviantART Points and a six-month Premium Membership to deviantART. The finalist judges will come from the amazing Chrysler
design team, the people who are responsible for designs like the Dodge
Dart.

I finally had the chance to look at the winners today. Hadn't had a very good weekend...my cat had gone missing because we had to change places with our camping car...and the cat didn't like that very much. Now I am happy though, he's back ('cause we could get back to our original space) and
I can finally put this Dodge contest to rest....
