Discovered - mazhlekov

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 19, 2011, 10:51 AM

Signature styles - some people certainly have them.  As an artist, I don't feel that I've found a signature style - something that clearly denotes an image as being something I've created but I'm not sure that it's necessarily important or something I actually want to have.  However, I do enjoy being able to spot an artist from afar simply by noting the presence of their signature style :) Such is the case with ~Mazhlekov I can spot his style from a mile away and I love it! When I first found him via the Discovery tool I was instantly attracted to his style and I invite you to take a trip through his strange and surreal world:

My questions for you are:

1. Do you have a signature style and if so what is is? Show me examples!

2. Do you feel a signature style is important? Why or why not?

once or if you learn to do things in certain ways, or even when you go to create something and it just feels right, then with practice and a fair few years lets say, you'll surely develop your own style, in any form of art that is, whether its bowl skating, dark poetry or abstract art..

i do happen to be finding my signature style in art, as from my own perspectives and others interpretations, but i just love experimenting! so i dont think ill really ever have a 'consistent' set of work.. as i see and hear of many artists that say something along the lines of 'find something within art thats you, and go with it constantly'.. but to me thats impossible, as my interests will always spark in a new direction, whether its a new medium ive found or simply a new technique.

makes me wonder that artists who do have a 'consistent set of work', do it so to prove to others that they have a signature style..?

I don't have a style but I do feel it's important though I think that it might change with time as the artist grows or matures or has a love affair with another style.

I have a friend who's had his style for a while: [link]

I envy him! I keep trying new styles till I find my own.

Wow, he's definitely got a trippy style. Thanks for sharing. :)

1. Do you have a signature style and if so what is is? Show me examples! I don't feel I've quite reached a signature style, yet, though I have had people tell me they recognize my work when they see it. In that case there may be something there I just haven't really noticed.

2. Do you feel a signature style is important? Why or why not? Yes and No. I feel a style defines you and can be nice so that people always know it's your work. In a way this can protect you as well because people who know your work will notice it if it's somewhere it shouldn't be. At the same time, having a signature style isn't a big concern for me. I'm more into having fun and expressing myself through my work.

I don't think it's important. A signature style does help people identify you, but that's sometimes not a good thing, I think it niches you if you are not careful.

I prefer watching people with different styles because the variety in the work is more interesting. I personally get a bit bored when I see too much of one style, though that could depend on the use of signature styles I suppose.

Nice feature though :) (one of the few examples of signature work keeping interest)

I've yet to develop my own signature style. Right now I'm trying a lot of different stuff though. Maybe something good will come out of it. :)

The signature is present when the artist imagine, dream and create with heart (It's valid for all kind of Creative souls). When the creation process is like game, when we didn't search for approvement, when we just do it because we need so. So the signature are we ourselves. :))

I don't have a signature style...sometimes I wish I did, othertimes I'm glad that I'm somewhat diverse in my skills/talents. I know several artists who I can spot their deviations on first glance, and I love that I can do that with them...I never miss a thing they do! Then there are so many who don't have a particular style, and I like being surprised by something I didn't think/know they could do, or something totally different from their 'normal' work. I definitely feel like I've found my niche with Vector Art, and am striving to learn more and become better...but that also doesn't stop me from grabbing a pad and pencil or canvas and brush and doing some traditional work :)

I think doing what you love, whatever makes you feel good, is more important than having a unique style

Thanks for sharing *Mazhlekov's work with us, it's awesome!

I don't know if my style is "signature", since it's a tribute to the Powerpuff roots of mine, while blending a bit more "realism" whenever/wherever possible. While it's helpful in standing out, I don't think such a "signature style" is needed, particularly considering I don't think drawing styles can be copyrighted...:paranoid:
