Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy *Fuzzypiggy's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across *lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown.  I know that it's "human nature" to want to find

I don't know about you, but Light Painting has to be really unique and awesome in order to impress me. So when I stumbled across the work of Darren Pearson aka Darren Twin - I was astounded at the creativity and simple methods used to create his conceptual photographic pieces. Darren creates LED pictures of Skeletons Skateboarding, dancing and living - exploring what the Mail Online has termed as the bare bones of our daily lives. And it really is precisely that. Darren takes the ordinary, the mundane and the normal of everyday life and lights it up by night by painting bones. Check it out for yourself. That prompted me to go searching for some of my favourite light painted pieces here
Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is...

In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category.  It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

This week Horacio Coppola died. Many will not know the name, but in the Photography world he was pretty awesome. He died age 105, and was famous for taking Black and White photographs of Buenos Aires in the 1930s. But he also photographed normality. Some of his works included egg and twine - quite simply an egg and a piece of twine. Others featured a typewriter, but ultimately he shot normality, the everyday things that people overlooked. He's said to be one of very few photographers who manage to capture the romance, vitality and squalor of a great city. So a legend has died, but somewhere another will rise up through the ranks. Who inspires you? Which historical Artists have provoked you to reach the place where you are now? Or who you aspire to be?

Hot off the Press - Our Vector CV is in Print!In case you haven't heard already, `ChewedKandi - our dedicated and definitely awesome Vector Community Volunteer has been working hard with Adobe! The result? Her book has JUST been published!
But that's not all - the book involves 30 emerging artists within the Vector Community and most of them are from deviantART! The book explores their work, their inspirations and some tutorial projects that will help those looking to learn a bit more. Whether or not you're seriously into Vector doesn't actually matter, because this beautiful showcase of works has something for everybody.

2. Daily Deviations: Listing Suggesters



    As a team, we receive hundreds of Daily Deviation suggestions a day.  As a team, we endeavor to go through those in a timely manner and some of those go on to become some of the Daily Deviations you see highlighted on any given day.  When we select a DD via a suggestion, we add the name of the suggester into the selection tool.  Occasionally, the image has been suggested to us by more than one person and when that's obvious, we may choose to include both people who suggested the piece.  More often than not, this just isn't possible.  It's not possible to remember every single image we've seen and include every single person who felt it should be a Daily Deviation.  In the past, it would seem that some people on our team have chosen to edit a Daily Deviation to add a suggester, this practice just simply doesn't make sense.  We will continue to include the first suggester of the Daily Deviation and occasionally, multiple suggesters if it's possible but at the end of the day, the Daily Deviation is about the artist being featured, not about who found it.  We do everything in our power to be fair and represent the community in a positive way, however, I've recently been getting complaints that someone sent in a suggestion and someone else was listed as a suggester, and some of these comments are really unkind.  Please consider the sheer amount of feedback my team get and remind yourself that Daily Deviations are a feature of Artwork.  If you're upset because you didn't get your name in the suggester box and really need to talk to someone about it, please do not harass my volunteers.  Please note myself or email me at Moonbeam13@deviantart.com

Oh another thing, I think there needs to be more activity on Anime/manga gallery, there's only one news and it's an interview (interviews are good but they don't open for a lot of community participation, me thinks). Maybe more contests, or something that allows members to interact more with each other. Just my :twocents:
