:iconmoonbeam13: deviantART » Director of Artist Relations
$Moonbeam13

Hello!

The purpose of Artist Relations is to strengthen the community spirit as well as network with fellow artists so that we may bring outside opportunities to you, and help you to hone your skills. The Gallery Directors are the first people you should go to regarding your galleries. They are the people you need to make gallery suggestions to, and ask questions about your specific genre, or seek knowledge from. They also act as your lifeline to the administration.  They are here to support and listen, and I can tell you we've got incredibly talented, devoted and passionate people on this team, so get to know them!

:bulletred: There was a link to an article on the megadeth.com website that suggested Vic was being retired and the band had asked us to create a new mascot.  The writer was wrong, the issue has been cleared up and the links removed.  For those that entered you did exactly what was expected, so no need to panic! :)

:bulletred: We welcome `nighty, `Aeires and `Einion as gallery directors for Photomanipulation, Digital Art and Vector Art respectively! Let the hazing begin.  For those concerned, Flash will get a GD so please bear with me.

:bulletred: We are working on restructuring various galleries, specifically in 3D, Stock and Fanart but this requires a lot of manual labour as well as help from IT which is currently understaffed.  There will be patience required but it will happen! There's also a :new: category in the works, but that's a suprise!

:bulletred: Visit our chatroom at #artistrelations, and take the  opportunity to speak directly with the gallery directors and core staff in real time! Help show your support by sporting our stamp

The Key System

As you can see at the very bottom there is a Key System. The way this works is simple. If you have a specific inquiry or suggestion for a specific department, begin your comment with the appropriate Key Code, that way we can search the page and address them. Neat, huh?

deviantART is a great place to learn new things about photography. For instance, check out `manyk's excellent Photoshop sharpening tutorial and action here. Also, check on the Photography Forum. There are lots of people there who can advise you on tricky photography situations, or just chat about taking pictures in general

The Stock Gallery will soon be undergoing a change in its category structure. It has been greatly needed and a long time in coming.

Artist that post in Stock Art do so that others might use their stock. Many of these Artists could and would post in the Art Galley accept they want someone to find and use for their own creations.

So the entire purpose of Stock Categories is to make it easier for people you use Stock to find what they need and that will be the main guiding principle of the new structure.

The 4 main Categories under stock will be:

Effects
Models
Props
Scenery

Photo Manipulation Artist (the largest group of Artist that use stock) are like Directors on a film. They envision in their minds that they want a picture of a fairy (model) flying over the New York skyline (Scenery) carrying a Sword (Prop) in one hand and a Feather (Prop) in the other, while on Fire (Effect).

The restructure will be done in phases with the first one being Models followed by Effects. This might be a year long project so bear with me. There will be sub categories under each of the main ones and Models are being discussed even as I write this.

Feel free to join in the fun / the passion / the spirited discussion going on right now the in the stock art forum as we nail down the first phase of the Stock Art Re-Cat. (Models)

As a Galley Director I represent the Artist who post in the gallery I represent. But I am also in the unique position of listening the Artist who use Stock Art and I want what is best for everyone... it’s about supply and demand

Good stocking – Peace out

:iconmpsai: deviantART » Comics and Cartoons
`MPsai

There's been a problem with Cartoons & Comics that needs to be directly addressed, and that is the problem of Fanart being uploaded into this gallery.

I can understand that when one sees the word "Cartoon" one may think it's alright to upload a drawing of your favorite cartoon character, but such is not the case. Your drawings of Jenny, Cosmo and Wanda, Danny Phantom, the Power Puff Girls, and all else need to go in Fanart. And hey, more people will find them there, that's what they flock to that gallery to see!

I can also understand that due to the ambiguous nature of superhero comics and the fact thousands of people have developed and collaborated on artwork and stories of the most popular, most senior costumed crusaders that comic artists tend not to think twice about showing off their awesome tributes to the characters that fed their passion for this medium in the first place under the heading of "Comics". However all your pin-ups of Supes and Spidey and Batman and all those spandex-clad champions of justice (and the spandex-clad evil-doers too) need to go under Fanart.

Sorry, this goes for our professional pencilers, inkers and colorists on DeviantART as well. I know you may be doing work for a company that owns the trademark of such a hero, but it would really help us ease the confusion if you posted the artwork under Fanart.

Of course if the cartoon character or comic book character you drew is completely YOUR original creation, go nuts! C & C is where you belong!

Lastly, I've added a blunt clarification that Fanart does not belong in Cartoons & Comics to the gallery descriptions. I hope this helps, and I hope everyone will try their best to keep DeviantART organized!

This goes for Fanart in the Anime gallery too, but I think you Anime artists have already been through this lecture many times :poke:

February is going to be a chilled-out month for this gallery, because I'll be busy with exams. However, lots of contests and activities will be set up over the month, and I'll be scouting the site for willing assistants (must come up with a better term for that post!) who'd be interested in judging contests, heading skin groups, gathering new talent from outside of DA and so on. Those who feel inclined to get in on this can note me pronto. The K-Meleon contest didn't go so well. I hope the upcoming contests are a lot bigger. Any ideas, people?

The Icons galleries are going strong and I'm seeing a definite improvement in the quality and variety of submissions which is
excellent. People in a creative mood should direct themselves to the exciting contests being held by `igy <a href="[link]"here and $zilla774 here for a chance to win prizes for their work. The renovation of the dA emoticon list is going ahead smoothly, we're tackling the system it uses at the moment so changes can be made easier in the future. Take care.

Well, in the brief time that I've been gallery director of the 3D gallery, I can say that things are running pretty smoothly.  All the mis-categorizations of images placed in the 3D gallery which don't  belong there have been cleared up (as of right now), and I'd like to say thanks to all of you out there who are reporting mis-categorizations, it really helps me in trying to keep things organized.  Also, as you may or may not have noticed, I've began picking Daily Deviations from the 3D gallery, along with `bluespeed9, so if you have any suggestions for Daily Deviations from that category, please note me with them (some basic rules to read before suggesting something can be read in my journal, here.)

So that's all the "present" information.  Now let's move on to the "future" of what's going on in the 3D gallery.  $Moonbeam13, and the fantastic IT department here at deviantART, and myself are looking into making some changes in the way of the categories in the 3D section.  Though the process may take a while, I just ask you to bear with us as possible changes are being made (a slight overview of what the newer 3D gallery may look like can be read in my
journal, here.
)

Also, the "3D Models" section of the Resources gallery is also lingering down the path of a rework, with `bluespeed9 heading up the project.  Though this is still in it's very beta stages, I can tell you that possible changes include program-specific model categories (such as for 3DS Max, Poser, Cinema4D, etc.)  With any luck, more information about all these changes will be coming sometime in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.  And as always, if you have any questions or concerns about the 3D gallery, feel free to contact me with them, all my contact info is on my page.

I have started cleaning out the photomanip section by reporting policy violations and relocating miscategorized deviations.

New categories might be needed, so I am going to start working on that soon and a weekly or monthly news feature is in the works as well, possibly together with $fourteenthstar.

I'd like to know how to appear in the daily deviation section....

actually someone has to suggest you to staff (^ / $ / + signs ) or staff would have to see your work and like it - most frown on pimping yourself so it's not a good idea to approach staff and say .. look at me .. look at me .. the best way to get a DD is to perfect your ART and generate ART worthy of being picked
