Different team members are taking over the Community group and this week it's danlev!
Copy and paste these 20 questions about being an artist... and answer them honestly! Title your journal "Honest Artist Challenge".
1. A genre or style I've tried and decided isn't for me: Digital art and I aren't really suited, I like to physically hold a marker
2. A common art advice I find hard to follow: Practicing every day is one I'm working on right now but especially as you get older and you have more "responsibilities" (aka kids) it can be hard to carve out time so I've started scheduling doodle time!
3. My biggest art-related fear: Currently, that I will ruin my line art with my colouring :D
4. A project I've been putting off: Finishing some art cards for friends (and shipping the gift I made for Heidi)
5. A subject I feel like I'll never master: Hands.. everything forever will have paws or hands in their pockets :D
6. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate my skills as an artist as a: 4? I mean, I doodle friends
7. A subject or theme I avoid in my art: violence
8. The most challenging project I've ever worked on and why: Read above about the gift for Heidi. I had an idea that I started off one way and scrapped halfway through and completely started again a different way that worked out!
9. How I deal with creative blocks: Colouring books and daily prompt challenges
10. A skill I stopped learning... and have no regrets: calculus ;)
11. How I handle criticism and feedback: I doodle so there isn't much of this to be honest. I find most people to be supportive of my little hobby but my best advice is to remember that it's for you. Art is a personal expression and you're allowed to have it only serve you sometimes -- it doesn't have to speak to everyone :)
12. My biggest motivator as an artist: personal stress release
13. A skill I have that unfortunately won't pay the bills: I know the words to pretty much every song ever made and can win most "name that tune" games. I can also identify samples in rap songs pretty quickly. What does one do with this stupid human trick?
14. A project I abandoned and why: When I was a brand new mom (my son is 5) there was a project someone shared that involved saving some onesies and turning them into a blanket or something. My heart exploded at this idea and I saved a few and then abadoned it because FRIENDS I DO NOT SEW (things to consider before you get sucked into the social media algorithm :P)
15. A color I rarely use and why: I am a rainbow loving doodler so I don't think I avoid any colours -- they're all great :)
16. My hobby or interest that always competes with art: That 5 year old I mentioned earlier, maintaining my indoor and outdoor gardens of saved plants from neighbours and friends and the caring for our colony of (now 9) stray community cats. My quest to become urban Cinderella is going swimmingly!
17. A place I feel the most creative: Outside!
18. A place I feel the least creative: Places with florescent lighting
19. The most unexpected inspiration for my art: My son. He gives me some great prompts without even knowing
20. My main challenge as an artist this year: Making more time to practice and finding some great marker tutorials! If any one knows of great alcohol marker tutorials, or generally doodling tutorials you think i should check out, let me know in the comments!
Now it's your turn!
TheLaurenVerse has thrown down the gauntlet over at Community and challenged us all to share a little bit about ourselves!
"moonbeam" had been my handle since the internet began but it was taken on DA so I added my favourite number and here we are :D
I love food but I'm pretty boring when it comes to something I would want to eat every day for the rest of my life I think it comes down to a comforting bowl of oatmeal with maple syrup or a trusty peanut butter and jelly sandwich -- never disappointing!
This is an extremely difficult question because I honestly feel like most gifts are pretty special but let's get sentimental and say my little bug -- he wasn't supposed to be possible but here he is anyways
I wanted to be a librarian and made a little library for my friends to borrow books from on my front porch
I got into doodling by participating in our tutorials and the drawtober event. Then I received some beautiful alcohol markers for Christmas! I'd love to learn how to use them better and do more sketching tutorials, so if you have marker or drawing tutorial recommendations for me, drop them in the comments!
