Introduction
For the past 6 years, I have been involved in supporting and raising money for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer event in Toronto.
To give a bit of background, in the past 6 years this organization has raised over 80 million dollars in donations and through this has made some landmark strides in advancing the research on breast cancer, which claims the lives of close to 50,000 women a year and about a quarter million women diagnosed per year. You can read about how the money has been allocated here
This money does make a big difference in helping with in depth gene studies and creating specialized programs for people diagnosed with the disease.
This year the walk is bigger and bolder! In Canada, in 2008 there were over 8,000 new cases of womens cancers including cervical, endometrial, and ovarian so the power of the walk has been expanded to include ALL women's cancers. You can read this to learn about the work being done in the areas of other women's cancers.
The Weekend To End Breast Cancer takes place all across Canada. In Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, and my hometown of Toronto, where for the last 6, I have participated in the 60k walk alongside my mom (=mombeam).
Together we have walked 360kms in the fight to end breast cancer (that's 225 miles for you Americans)
We've laughed, cried, ached and loved and this year the torch passes to my husband *gimp who will join me on the walk this year, marking my 420th km (all jokes expected
*gimp and I must raise $2000 each in order to participate and we're not there yet. We need your help!
This year the event takes place September 11th-13th, so the time to help is now!
So this brings us to the troubles. Due to the current economic situation, the ability to raise funds for charities is even harder. The challenge feels insurmountable and *gimp and I are behind. We need to raise $2000 each or we don't participate in the walk.
So I'm asking the deviantART community to help us reach this goal.
If you would rather use paypal you can make a paypal donation to dmckay7@cogeco.ca
We both know how hard it is to be charitable when you're dealing with your own personal issues. Last December, *gimp was laid off and remained jobless for many months. We don't want to add to the strain however, we are committed to this cause and we will continue to fight. If you cannot donate, please, help us raise awareness and spread the word.
Other Ways To Show Support Dye your hair pink, wear something pink or do a piece of art in pink and upload it to your gallery and link back here so we can spread the word to as many people as possible!

I'd love to donate, but I'm a Uni student trying to move out of home, so sadly that's not an option for me.
Good luck! I hope you and your husband raise the funds you need.

I did something like this myself, called Relay For Life by the American Cancer Assn. It was lots of fun and for a good cause. A great combination.
