Sooo kids, what's your favourite scary movie? deviantART, is proud to present BE AFRAID 2007. Bigger, bloodier and scarier than ever. I want to see your favourite scary movie. What's your take on the Jason Vorhees legend? Got a frightful way of recreating Evil Dead, but out the brain matter Ladies and Gents and recreate your favourite scary movie. Unlike previous years where Be Afraid was open to photography only, this years events are open to the Photography, Traditional and Digital Art Categories! Win exclusive Be Afraid prints products, and other cool swag like several Rue Morgue Magazine's coveted prize bags full of mucho cool horror swag and some fantastic Horror figures from Sota Toys.

THE CONTEST

Create a re-imagination of your favourite Horror movie/TV show or sceene from. Your image can be Photographic, Traditional Art or Digital Art submit it to Contests > Be Afraid 2007 > Scary Movie by Nov 3rd 2007 at 11:59pm PST

It must be a new deviation submitted between Oct 5th 2007 and November 3rd 2007

It must be a recreation of a horror movie, not a romance, action, documentary or porno.

It should go without saying that screen caps of actual movies are not allowed

Resources and Stock Contest of DOOM

Working hand in gruesome hand, resources and stock have teamed together to bring you the Resources and Stock Contest of DOOM!!!!

The Contest

Using both Resources and Stock Images, create a manipulation featuring something creepy, spooky and generally scary as hell. Zombies, witches, demons and clowns all come to mind - think of it as your dream (or should that be nightmare?) Halloween costume.

Both the artist and Resource/Stock Image provider will win prizes!

Though you need to use at least one Resource and Stock Image, you are not restricted to Resources and Stock Images - you may also use images of your own.

If you use more than one Resource or Stock Image you'll need to nominate which one you wish to be eligible for the provider prize (you should nominate the one which is most dominant/influential). Make sure to credit all your sources too!

What better way to celebrate Halloween and DA'S "Be Afraid" season than with a contest all about fears!

The object of this contest is to take an actual phobia and do your best to illustrate it. There are hundreds of phobias, common like acrophobia (fear of heights) or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), to the absurd such as

hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia (fear of the number 666).

There will be three winners in three categories: Scariest, Silliest, and Best Overall.

CONTEST RULES:
- Any media is welcome, color or black and white, but it has to be Manga/Anime style.
- The piece has to be your own original work, made for this contest. No copying or submitting another work, no old submissions and no fan art. Any characters involved must be your own original ones.
- in your description, be sure to include the phobia name and definition. Make sure to use the real name; for example, it's not "spiderphobia", it's "arachnaphobia".

The contest will run from Fri., October 5, to Sat., November 3 at 11:59 PST.

Costume Contest:


It's that time of year again, and I know everyone wants it so here it is:

HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST 2007!

Want to participate? Follow these rules:
Your costume can be made out of anything, from metal to
leather to regular fabric, but it must be made by you. Glue it, sew it,
hold it together with duct tape and bubble gum, as long as it works, it
goes.

Patterns may be used as bases for the costumes, but must
have some modification to make them 'yours'.

Pre-bought components must be limited to trim, shoes,
gloves, stockings, or other such accessories and must be stated in the
submission so we don't think you made them when you didn't. The actual
garment must be made by you. No packaged Halloween costumes bought
from stores!

They will be judged on design, accuracy, novelty,
construction, etc.

Items must be made for this Halloween only. No garments
from last year or things already submitted to your account.

Take a picture of yourself in the costume so that all
aspects of the costume can be seen.

If you are doing the Fan Art category, LINK to a
reference shot of the character in the description if you must. Any
entries found with copyrighted character art on it are policy violations.

Entries must be submitted under community projects-

Need some ideas on where to get your costume ideas? Here are some
below:

Historical - anything based on a historical period pre 2000.

This means historical figures like Napoleon, Marilyn Monroe, or even MC
Hammer.

Classic - your take on classic Halloween favorites -
vampires, Frankenstein, ghosts, mummies, Indians, kitty cats.

Character Based - Raggedy Ann, Romeo and Juliet, the
little mermaid, little red riding hood and the big bad wolf, anything based on a character of someone else's but is YOUR TAKE on the character, not a direct copy.

Fan Art - based on a character and made to look EXACTLY
how that character was portrayed in a certain movie, book, etc. This
might seem like an easy category, but if you attempt Jessica Rabbit, you
better get it dead on! Every little detail will be scrutinized since you did not actually design the costume.

"It's the Great Pumpkin Carving Contest"

Grab a NATURAL GROWN (no funkin or faux) pumpkin and carve, scrape,
adorn, and paint to your hearts desire to compete for a year sub prize
and some devwear..

The rules

It can be a pumpkin of any size, it just has to be real. That means from
a vine, with pumpkin guts.It must be carved in some way.
The carving must be original and not derived from an existing image.
You can enter as many as you want or have as many pumpkins in an entry
that you want.
