Feel yourself up, or get someone to do it for you. The first step is always prevention! Steal this emote and spread it around!
Introduction
For those that don't know, I haven't been feeling well for the last couple of weeks. I contributed it to lack of sleep and when it was icky on Thursday, I took the day off and stayed in bed. Friday met me with fevers ad chills that wouldn't let up so midway through the day, I gave in and took care of it. It's just my body's way of exhibiting exhaustion and I slept on an off for the rest of the day/night until now!
And of course that leads me to what
you already know. I've been pink'd. It would appear that $
lolly has orchestrated my team as well as most of my colleagues to come together for
The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and I'm just.. floored.
The Why
My grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was an hour and a half away at university. I remember the phone call, and then I remember getting back to Toronto in less than half an hour. I was there for her surgery, I remember her recovery, it's all etched into my mind. In October of that year, there was an event called the
Run for the Cure. It was a 5km run and my mother and I decided this would be an event we had to do. We participated in the run for 3 years and fully expected to do it again until a radio advertisement announced the first inaugural year of
The Weekend to End Breast Cancer. This was a 60km event where you were required to raise
at least $2000. This wasn't a half hour run, this was a year long commitment and we were in.
My grandmother beat breast cancer and I have participated in this event in honor of her strength and courage.
She was diagnosed with lung cancer and that battle she wouldn't win. And so, I will continue to walk in loving memory of my light that went out on April 13th, 2007.
Many of you ask why when it wasn't what took her life in the end. I started this journey for her, and it's not over until there is a cure. Cure one.. maybe we can cure them all.
Gratitude
To my team and my colleagues who snuck behind my back to pull of this incredible surprise... Thank you. Your display of love, encouragement and support has touched me very deeply and many tears have been shed since I've begun realizing the true scope of what you've accomplished.
A special thanks to $
lolly, my partner in crime and the best friend anyone could ask for.
And of course, to the deviants that have since participated in spreading the word, donating and offering words of encouragement.
Thank you, I love you all and I'm so proud to be part of this community.
