One Step At A Time (Update)

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 4, 2007, 2:23 AM

UPDATE!: Thanks to =RockGirl1582 I have a stamp! feel free to use it :)

I have officially kicked off my fundraising efforts for The Weekend to End Breast Cancer. This will be my fifth year doing this event and my sixth year of doing a fundraising event for breast cancer research.

My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor and going through her ordeal with her, changed my life forever.

In 2001, I started doing the 5km CIBC run for the cure and I did that event for two years running, raising $4,500.

Then, in 2003, they brought an event to Toronto for the first time, called the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. This is a 2 day, 60km event that moves through the entire city and to call it life altering is an understatement.

The first year was very emotional for me and I went through a lot of 'stuff' in my head. The stories, the memories, the pain and the joy I was surrouded by, that drove the other participants around me, was a lot for me to digest. I have never seen anything as beautiful as the image of thousands of people, men and women, moving forward toward the same goal. I raised $6,500 that year and signed up for 2004 as soon as it was over.

In 2004, I came just shy of my $10,000 goal at $9,010 but the experience was just as profound. This event has shattered fundraising records two years in a row and I truly believe it's these efforts that will bring a cure to this disease, which is why it's what I've devoted myself to. In 2005 & 2006 the total was just over $5000 combined.

I spend as much of the year as I can fundraising for this event and I've started now. My website hooks into my donation site as does this link here

This is not your local fundraiser, this is a national movement that I will continue to walk until we find a cure. I can't express to you how I feel, but you will see the results of what we will continue to accomplish one weekend, every year, until we win.

The statistics are mind blowing, 1 in 9 women. 1 in 9! Think about that.. think of 9 women you know.. it has to end.

In 6 years I've raised over $25,000 for breast cancer research but it's not enough yet and I must keep going.

If you can make a donation that's wonderful, if you already have, that's amazing and if you simply want to help me spread the word I would very much appreciate that.
