Welcome to Arts and HealthWelcome to #Arts-and-Health. We are glad you are here!We are not a typical "art collection" group! Please take a moment to read a little bit about us and our mission.Arts & Health is about art. And health. We are a new Community Project but not an "official" dA group. We are grateful for the generous backing of Community Relations. We are concerned not only with how art is used to show health and illness, but also with how art can be used as a vehicle for storytelling. We want to show what it's like to live with an illness (regardless of how major or minor) as a means to raise awareness not only of the condition, but also of the human spirit and endurance. At our core, human beings are brave and resilient creatures, even in the face of illness, and we want to depict this triumph while raising awareness of illnesses. We are still ironing out the format of the group. We plan to put together a bimonthly (perhaps moving to monthly) "e-zi
Humans Becoming Robots, Robots Becoming HumanOn March 1, 2012 the Nevada DMV issued the first license for a “Google Driverless Car.” The idea behind this innovation is that one day soon new technology will drive cars safer and more skillfully than humans, thus saving lives and billions of dollars in car crashes. How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. There have always been those who have dreamed of stepping into a mechanical exo-skeletal-type “suit” and letting the engineering do the work, instantly increasing limited human speed, strength, endurance and accuracy.:icontec
Brian Taylor: Outlaw of Independent CinemaMovies featuring the latest in high tech digital effects, eye-popping CGI environments and ear-splitting surround sound, are often described as “pushing the envelope.” But they’re mega-million-dollar productions that are delivered back to the studios by the filmmakers precisely as pre-ordered. DownfallAnd in this dark harvest of seasonMy life has completely lost reason,For which or against to decide. All lost in a savage and endless, bleak tideIn sadness and in kindness In light and in darkness. In a boat made of hope I shall sail to tomorrow,In a winding hurricane Made of treachery and sorrow. There's a spear, endless, and colossal spear...Piercing, slashing though my head.Starting somewhere in heaven, Ending somewhere in hell.Fighting, burning, crying, crashing. Are the armies within. In my head they are all thrashing. On the heaven's and hell's whim.To be light or to be darkness.A perpetual array. It's n

5 Reasons you should learn photography manually!I once met someone who was determined not to use a D-SLR until he had mastered a Manual Camera first. I thought he was a bit stuck up, maybe a little arrogant of his own abilities too...but actually, he was right. You will not truly value Photography until you go right back to basics and learn how the legendary pros did it first. So here are five top reasons why you should teach yourself photography on a manual camera!1) It's CheapMany people think that Film Photography is expensive. If you're going all out and developing your own photographs rather than taking the to a developer then it might well be expensive! However manual cameras are a dying breed and you can pick up most of the bits and pieces you need to get started, quite cheaply.2) Manual FocusIt's the simplest reason, but it's so true. Manual Focus will save your life. Learning how to focus your camera the hard way will make

Undiscovered (Beta): Unearthing Quality ArtArt Under The RadarEach day, hundreds of thousands of pieces of art are submitted to deviantART. As more and more artists join, create, and share their work, it becomes easy for high quality art to miss its chance to stand out and be seen. Our new browse mode, Undiscovered, aims to bring new, high quality artwork to the foreground.Finding Hidden GemsUndiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork that has not yet drawn attention or recognition at the levels of Popular or What's Hot browse modes. Using an algorithm that identifies patterns in community behavior when curating content, Undiscovered generates a browsing experience that draws attention to creative art and talented artists that may not receive the same level of attention from other browse modes. Please keep in mind that the algorithm that powers Undiscovered is still new and we may make changes as it grows in use.Discover New Art DailyBecause Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork, the artwork displayed m
CSS/HTML Tricks: Article LayoutHello!Another tutorial for news articles and journals on dA!This one is meant to help you add structure to your news articles (and personal journals) and thus enhance the reading experience for your audience.I have already written a tutorial on the topic of HTML Literature, but only showcased what is possible there. It is almost the same as :faq104:This tutorial will try to explain why you should use additional HTML in your articles and how it helps improve their quality. Also it turned out to be quite long, so skip to your liking. For further reading please refer to CSS Tricks: Limiting .text width, which explains the necessity of limiting your text width. Why is structure important?Nobody likes reading a wall of text. If you look at an article and all you see is a grey blur,
Celebrating Diversity #23The idea behind the Celebrating Diversity Project is to post an article with deviations not from my area of expertise (Artisan Crafts) but from other Galleries that I almost never visit. This time I specifically searched for mediums that I enjoy but kind of forgot that I did.Once again, I strongly encourage you to step out of your zone of comfort and take the time to discover or re-discover other types of art. The world is full of wonder and beauty, we just need to take the time and open our minds to see even more of it.Photography > AbstractTraditional Art > ScratchboardFilm & Animation > Animation:b
