Welcome to Arts and HealthWelcome to #Arts-and-Health. We are glad you are here!We are not a typical "art collection" group! Please take a moment to read a little bit about us and our mission.Arts & Health is about art. And health. We are a new Community Project but not an "official" dA group. We are grateful for the generous backing of Community Relations. We are concerned not only with how art is used to show health and illness, but also with how art can be used as a vehicle for storytelling. We want to show what it's like to live with an illness (regardless of how major or minor) as a means to raise awareness not only of the condition, but also of the human spirit and endurance. At our core, human beings are brave and resilient creatures, even in the face of illness, and we want to depict this triumph while raising awareness of illnesses. We are still ironing out the format of the group. We plan to put together a bimonthly (perhaps moving to monthly) "e-zi
Humans Becoming Robots, Robots Becoming HumanOn March 1, 2012 the Nevada DMV issued the first license for a “Google Driverless Car.” The idea behind this innovation is that one day soon new technology will drive cars safer and more skillfully than humans, thus saving lives and billions of dollars in car crashes. How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. There have always been those who have dreamed of stepping into a mechanical exo-skeletal-type “suit” and letting the engineering do the work, instantly increasing limited human speed, strength, endurance and accuracy.:icontec

DownfallAnd in this dark harvest of seasonMy life has completely lost reason,For which or against to decide. All lost in a savage and endless, bleak tideIn sadness and in kindness In light and in darkness. In a boat made of hope I shall sail to tomorrow,In a winding hurricane Made of treachery and sorrow. There's a spear, endless, and colossal spear...Piercing, slashing though my head.Starting somewhere in heaven, Ending somewhere in hell.Fighting, burning, crying, crashing. Are the armies within. In my head they are all thrashing. On the heaven's and hell's whim.To be light or to be darkness.A perpetual array. It's n
Mid May News: UnityIn two weeks, I will be celebrating eight special years on DeviantART. I know I have expressed this before – but I – and others here I have been privileged to know – have come a long way since the early years on site. We have weathered many changes, experienced enjoyable highs and disappointing lows, and have certainly become a much stronger, unified community, that I am very honored to be a part of, everyday. I continue to be amazed at how we have all grown wonderfully together, forming a unified kinship! Many here know of my invaluable experiences on the Community Relations team. As I celebrate another year of Deviousness, I reflect fondly on my memories and experiences on the team. Sometimes, it seems surreal that this journey for me began three years ago; it still feels like yesterday having had the rare honor of working alongside beloved Literature deviants like `GeneratingHype, who I still miss terribly, everyday – the wonderful !lovetodeviate, who has long since l
Thoughts about communityCommunity is a word that is used on dA a lot. It's a huge part of the site and the main reason why I love this place so much and have stuck around for so many years, even when I haven't had time to indulge in my art or felt like sharing it for whatever reason. I've made true friends here who I care for deeply and can't imagine not using dA in some capacity to keep in touch with all of you wonderful people. The thing with a community, in my opinion, is that it's kind of a by-product. I don't mean that in a bad or belittling way. What I mean is that you can't actually force a community to thrive, or even to exist. You can provide a context (like a website or a message board or a physical-world organisation) and tools (like comments or chat features online or a room to meet in for offline events). You can invite people to join in, encourage them to interact and even moderate destructive or negative behaviour but you can't make a community - it's something that happens by itself, th

Athens: Greece is the WordFriday, I got on a plane in Belgrade and flew south to Greece. I was there just for the weekend, staying in a quaint little studio hosted by some very nice Greek dude. One backpack of stuff slapped together in 10 minutes and I was ready. I have a new goal. I want to get this bag plastered in badges from the places I visit. It's been a good travel bag. It deserves that honor.Everything started off interestingly. I was sitting at my kitchen table in Belgrade, getting work done for the day, when suddenly 15 minutes before I was supposed to leave, the power went out for my entire floor. I said, "fuck it," closed my laptop, threw it into my already packed backpack, the only thing I brought with me, and walked outside to catch a cab to the airport. The cab that showed up was driven by this insanely hot Serb dude who looked like an Italian Ryan Gosling, who would occasionally look back at me through the rearview through his aviators, saying very concise statements and ques

New Management at #Fella - The Official dA GroupHello Deviants and Fellas! For the past few months `RockstarVanity has been running #fella and has done an extraordinary job! However, she is trying to pull back a little and has handed leadership of the group over to me. `RockstarVanity will still be a part of the group's posse and help run things within the group. For those of you that do not know me, my name is `TimberClipse, or in real life, Zev. I am a student and filmmaker and absolutely love the deviantART community. I currently run a number of groups, but the two main ones that I focus on are #fella and #deviant365 (deviantART's official 365 group). We will be ramping up some new events here at #fella shortly including a small contest that will be announced soon, so stay tuned! In the mean time, drop by `RockstarVanity's page and give her a huge thank you for all she has done and will continue to do. My best wishes to you all,`TimberClipse

What's hot? An article series you should look intoOver the last 3 weeks, I've made an article series that has been received pretty well. deviantART has made a new way to browse art! It's called the "what's hot?" feature. It's great to see what other deviants are looking at, and what's catching on. It mixes art from today, last week, last month, and the past years of submissions from devinartART.Past articles:I have featured Typography on May 5th I have featured Vector on April 26th I have featured SciFi on April 19th These are published on Friday's, and I already have an existing list of galleries which I will be focusing on. Each article will have a description of the art form and will be selected from the top 400 or so "What's hot?" deviations.I hope you enjoy the article series as much as it's been fun for me to create it each week
Thank you, `dekorAdum!
Where I live Contest: Results! The amount of entries to the Where I Live contest, was staggering! It truly made the launch of #CRPhotography quite special and we appreciate all the promotion, feedback and deviants who worked hard to create something for the theme. The diversity of deviantART was really highlighted with this contest and it was fantastic to see how everybody chose to sum up their home town in a single image with just a few words attached to explain their choice. Well done! Without further ado though, here are the results! 1st Place 1 Year Premium Membership + 2100This is quite a unique entry, being a double exposure and also with the artists comments justifying why this illustrates where they live - written by another deviant. For that reason it has been decided that whilst *LashelleValentine takes first place - a small amount of
The Artists Toolbox: Photography StudiosHearing the word studio makes me think of expensive rooms with top of the range equipment, fantastic lighting and only professional awesome photographers inside of it. In reality however, you can create a Photography studio for just about any type of Photography and it doesn't have to cost very much. The Macro Studio Macro Photography can be undertaken pretty much anywhere, but sometimes you just want to shoot something in a neutral environment with a plain, unobtrusive backdrop. Many photographers shy away from doing this because they think it's too complicated - actually you would be doing yourself a favour if you did try it, it can really help improve your work. For starters, you don't even have to have expensive flash. You could use any lamp that you can easily move around, to give a bit of light into your mini studio. You also need a couple of sheets of card or paper, and a cardboard box. The sizing is completely up to you and up to the size of the o
Lady Gaga, Reduced to Ashes, A Phoenix to AriseReduced to AshesA Phoenix to AriseBy $techgnotic|May 6, 2013If something burns your soul with purpose and desire, it’s your duty to be reduced to ashes by it.Charles BukowskidepthRADIUSLikeTweet+1Today, Lady Gaga’s throne as a reigning pop diva is a 24 carat gold wheelchair, emergency hip surgery forcing the cancellation of her latest tour – a betrayal more devastating for her than for the typical performer, given her relationship with her fans. Her body has finally broken in sacrifice to the needs of her monsters for constant contact and reassurance. The question now is whether this brutal brush with her own mortality will result in the pop goddess pulling

Zagreb, Day 28: In which I don't buy a toilet seatToday, I went to the post office. Or the Hrvatska Pošta, rather. There seem to be only 2, one in Novi Zagreb and the other in Grad Zagreb. I figured I'd have better luck with the one in Grad Zagreb, so I hoofed it there. That's right, I idiomatically expedited myself there. My only other post office experience in Europe was in Barcelona. I obviously had a much easier time visiting the post office there given that I actually speak the language spoken there. Here, I simply had no idea what I was getting myself into. And when $allixsenos asked me, "Are you going to the post office?" and I said yes, and he laughed... I figured it was probably going to be chaos. The post office here wasn't awful at all, though. Like the one in Barcelona, it operates in a ticket system much like you would experience in an American DMV. The machine that gives you the ticket only has instructions in Croatian, however. You have to pick which category you want. I was able to understand eno
Fried day features #1Hey guys! I always do journal features. And I usually push them randomly without a fixed date, I now feature random artworks and I have made a series of artist features, etc. So it got really messed up and I have finally (better late than never) decided to start a features series called Fried Days Features. This way things will be more organised and this will make me feature new things. Some features will be themed some won't. I will also be featuring artists, posting some interviews and lot's of other things. :blah:This week I decided to start my first features article, featuring random Traditional artworks from DeviantArt's galleries. So, here you go! I hope you guys love the artworks. Thanks for reading!<strong align="center">

Urban Exploration #8 "Urban explorers are a bit like children...if you tell them not to do something, they're going to do it anyway..."This week, Urban Exploration has surprisingly been in the news a fair bit. With articles ranging from what it's all about to asking the public whether urban explorers pose a threat to national security. For something that is secretive, for the most part, and often overlooked and not thought of, there has been a fair bit of discussion! There is also an article claiming that Urban Exploration Photographs Pose a Security Risk. Admittedly, I can see a bit of where they're coming from but honestly, the whole thing is a bit hyped up. What are your thoughts on this? Are you an Urban Explorer that doesn't consider themselves a security risk? Or are you a bystander that think
