ver·ti·go (vûrt-g) - A sensation of irregular or whirling motion, either of oneself or of external objects. A reeling sensation; feeling about to fall.
I am afraid of heights. I am not particularly fond of tall buildings, bridges, flying.. you name it and when I'm in a situation that brings on this fear, the vertigo I suffer is sickening, so it's almost ironic that I brought it on intentionally to take this shot but I was inspired by a dear friend of mine and decided to challenge my fear. I'm not an architectural photographer by any stretch of the imagination but it certainly was an interesting experiment. Note: The church is The Church of the Reedemer in Toronto at the corner of Bloor and Avenue road and was built in 1879. Commentsthis is a breathtaking shot hun.. the tonal range and detail is near perfect.. the only thing i would have done is try to get rid of the converging lines.. but its almost impossible to do with digital or 35mm.. since there are no real shifts and tilts as with a view camera.. again though its a beautiful shot and would make a killer print..
chris -- Creations by Chris Pbase [link] Gallery [link] Well, consider this experiment a major success! I love the perfect symmetry of this shot and the angle you chose totally emphasizes the height. I have the feeling like i'm standing at the bottom, looking up and it gives me a kink in my neck and makes me think i'll fall over if i keep looking up that way. Great capture of vertigo, of the height, and of the grandiosity of the building itself. I am always amazed by gothic churches... all the intricate detail makes my head spin, can you imagine the massive amount of work that goes into something like that? .. such a shame we no longer build like that.
Beautifully done, Danielle... i like it a lot -- General Photography Gallery Moderator katerina423@volunteers.deviantart.com Find out everything you ever wanted to know about photography.. here What a great shot. The tones are so well balanced. The white circular window towards the top really helps break up the greys making it that much more interesting. I can see how you would get a little dizzy taking this. Excellent work, Danie!
