Tree Spirit

Large rough, gnarly, weathered tree
leaves of green spades
limbs of dance
reaching up
reaching down
limbs of support
bringing up life water
food gathering
wind whispers
speaking of things
through the leaves
rhythmic swaying
timeless motion
speaking to me
the emotions swaying
I will be that tree
grounded yet wanting to fly
speaking yet whispering
of my determination
never to surrender
this feeling of strength
holding
surviving
enduring
