This is a Rain Tree, or Saman. Early travellers to the tropics reported that the tree produced rain at night. Legend speaks " rains from the branches , are the juice of the cicadas, or Cheribus. The grass is always green beneath this tree due to the way the leaves close at night allowing the rain to fall more easily within its foliage. and thus during the days covers the grass more effectively from the harsh sun. It's a very huge canopied tree, one of the most symmetrical in the world. covered with tiny pinktipped tufts fron spring to fall. A great footnote on the tree is that it was used in the movie, as well as mentioned in the novel, "Swiss Family Robinson." It harboured the family in its huge limbs where they made an impenetrable fort in it's giant branches.
The canopy of the tree will surpass the height eventually. It is a great protector, and as such I have a great affinity for it.
Absolutely beautiful. I love the emotion in this photo, even though there are no colors and it is a solitary tree. But that may be the strongest point, that there are indeed no other factors to get in the way of what you are trying to convey. The contrast of the dark tree, which almost looks shadowed or silhouetted, against the light, dappled-grey, sky. When I look at this I feel peace and serenity overall, though hints of something darker- possibly more sinister. I could go on forever about all the emotions and whatnot you could suck out of this, but I think it can be expressed in one word- magnificent.
WOW this is such a lovely photo. I love the contrast and how the tree is completely black. It's such a wounderful photo that i couldn't help pass it up without a fav. or a comment or anything. I love the concept you did with this. And I like how the tree spreads out, it is such a lovely location and ideal peice of work. Altho I do have one issue with it, I believe you should have a lttle ground to the tree, where the ground meets. Because the tree looks as if it is floating, so some ground should be added there but the bonder line seems to take care of it but I am just saying to add some ground next time. WOW i just love this photo so pretty. Well done. And keept it up.
This is absolutely gorgeous and I'm surprised I haven't seen it as a DD yet. It reminds me of something I would see in a beautiful nature documentary or national geographic cover. Stunning!
