Artist's Comments

It was hard not to fall in love with her. I found her in Kensington Market in Toronto and watched her chalking the side of the building while her family sold their wares in the marketplace. I'd been focused on her for about 15 minutes when she finally turned. She came over to see the picture when I was done and decided she looked pretty enough for me to keep it.

I love children.

hey, i can see that you've been studying composition! great capture of street life. her expression is almost, "i've been caught in the act! look cool. look cool..." anyway, back to the composition. i like the diagonal line of boxes you've put in there, and the girl's face being close to the thirds. i'd crop it a bit from the top because there's some slack space up there, but this is a great step forward for you. :)

Just... wow.

This is an incredible photo - one of your best to be sure. The expression of the girl and the perspective of the shot are all exceptional. I cannot find much more to say than this... there is little to critique... just a really really beautiful job.

I knew you were going to nail me for the space at the top but nooooo I left it anyways :P Instinct over brain, instinct over brain ;)

After spending a week seeing in grids and lines it was nice to have a few of the assignments come to fruition, I was quite happy with the result :)

What's next Master Jedi? :P

... I just adore this... I can really get it because it's more than a mere effect or digital wizardry tossed onto a photo... this tells a story like a piece of photojournalism, one with meaning and consequence and a wondering of what happened after the shot was taken...
